Kitchen Lighting
So many of us love to cook and entertain in our kitchen. Often,
however, the light output in the kitchen is not sufficient to perform
the needed tasks, or it may be too bright to feel comfortable entertaining
guests. What to do?
To really enjoy your kitchen, consider layering your lighting - use
several types of lighting in layers, so to speak. One basic rule of
efficient lighting is to put light where you need it. For example
you may want to start with the ceiling. Your choices can be recessed
cans, flush mounted fixtures, fluorescent clouds or track lighting.
Then, consider lighting your workspace by using task lighting as in
under-cabinet lighting to help with food preparation and even toe- kick space lighting. The next layer might include mini-pendants over
the island or kitchen sink, or a larger fixture over the kitchen
table. For softer light, consider using wall sconces. Make sure you
use dimmers, which set the mood, enable you to hide those dirty
dishes and which allow you and your guests to enjoy that glass of
wine or cup of coffee at the end of the day. Questions? Email us,
